Easy Easter Sidewalk Chalk Obstacle Course

Published: Apr 5, 2026 by Morgan Β· This post may contain affiliate links Β·

Looking for a free, outdoor Easter activity you can do with your kids this weekend? Here's how to set up an easy Easter sidewalk chalk obstacle course!

One thing that I love with Easter is that it lines up with the weather getting warm - but not too hot. It's so fun to plan outdoor Easter activities!

While we attend plenty of egg hunts - and do some of our own around the house - I recently set up some Easter sidewalk chalk for my kids!

I love doing these chalk obstacle courses as an invitation to play and a guided activity for my kids. Plus, the neighbor kids love them, too!

A Few Sidewalk Chalk Tips

My kids do a ton of sidewalk chalk, I normally don't. Here are some tips I picked up that help:

  • It takes a lot more chalk than you think. It goes quickly. Make sure you have plenty on hand!
  • You don't need to fill everything in. Thick lines can sometimes read better than filled in shapes. Plus, it saves chalk!
  • Letters and words look best if you do a thick layer - like 3 strokes thick - then a single layer of a second color on top. OR outline them!
  • Words are optional - but it gives more guidance, especially for older kids! It's a great way to avoid "what do we do?" questions!

Easy Easter Sidewalk Chalk Obstacle Course

Here are the elements that I included in my Easter sidewalk chalk!

Hop Like a Bunny!

An easy start is bunny footprints! You can do any pattern or path. I chose to do pairs of paw prints sort of staggered back and forth to encourage hopping!

Dodge the Carrots

Next, I drew carrots coming in from the sides to dodge!

If you have a longer space, you could really draw a lot of these and get the kids running zig zags and giggling!

Pick the Flowers

I wanted to include some spring flowers, so this is Pick the Flowers!

There was some disagreement amongst the kids on what to do here (haha!)

I meant it just to be a bit of hopscotch but some wanted to start at the beginning and touch each flower with their hands.

Others wanted to jump and squat down to touch the ground on each. You can't go wrong - use your imagination is what I told them!

Egg Spin!

Spinning is my favorite element to add to a chalk obstacle course!

For this one, I drew and egg with a spiral in it! Simple but always a hit.

Bunny Balance

I always follow a spinning obstacle with a balance one, just for some dizzy fun.

This bunny balance is just a curvy line they walk like a waving balance beam.

I added little bunnies to the beginning and the end as a simple way to make it Easter-y!

Chicken Waddle

It's not Easter without some cute chicks! I drew simple chick paw (claw?) prints for kids to waddle along.

A little silly slow down moment. Extra points if they say peep peep while waddling!

Tiptoe thru the Tulips

Another way to mix up the movements is some tip toeing!

These tulips make the perfect field to carefully tiptoe through!

Crack the Eggs

I love to end with drama, and what better than cracking eggs!

Kids can jump or stomp on each egg to "crack" them!

Happy Easter! I hope you have beautiful weather and can get outside!
