We love doing different themes for our library books each week.
Having a theme allows our two year old to really get into a topic. Sometimes these themes become passions (hello dinosaurs, I’m looking at you) and other times he just moves on at the end of the week.
Weather didn’t really become a passion, but using these books to talk about the weather made me more aware of talking about the weather as it is happening around us.
Luke now loves looking for dark clouds “it’s gonna rain, I see the black clouds!” and commenting on the weather in general.
Pairing these books with winter activities – like this Into the Clouds: Playdough Activity – is a great way to make it a totally immersive experience.
Now if we could only find him some snow!

If you love Eric Carle, you have to check out Little Cloud. Simple and sweet, with beautiful illustrations.
Count the animals as they hide from the rain!
A great book with lots of sound effects that kids will love repeating.
This book is for slightly older preschoolers because it has a lot of words, but it's a great story of a neighborhood waiting for rain and finally getting it.
A huge favorite. Froggy goes out in the snow but keeps forgetting items of clothing. Super cute!
Another counting book, with a little girl who plays in the rain until it rains too hard.
