Puffy Paint Melting Snowman Craft for kids

Looking for a fun Winter craft for kids? Here’s how to make this Melting Snowman Craft with homemade white puffy paint snow!

Winter is here and that can honestly be kind of bleak. I don’t even live anywhere really cold and already I am ready for spring!

Anyways, I am always looking for fun winter crafts to make with my kids.

We decided to make homemade puffy paint (always a hit with my 3 year old!) and this time used it to make snowman paintings.

Some of the snowmen turned out upright but most look a bit… melted. Sorry, Mr Snowman, but this is South Carolina. You have an expiration date!

Here’s how to make your own!

Pair this project with this snowman kindness craft for extra fun!

Here’s how easy it is to make these melting snowman crafts.

Supplies:

  • Shaving cream (this is the cheapest and best to use!)
  • White craft glue
  • Optional: white/clear glitter
  • Cup/bowl to mix in
  • Spoon
  • Blue paper (full sheet per kid)
  • Scrap cardstock – orange and black, to cut nose and hat
  • Googly eyes
  • Small sticks (for arms)
  • Small black pom poms (for coal)

How to make white snow puffy paint:

  1. You will want to mix 1 part shaving cream and 1 part white glue to make the DIY puffy paint. I sprayed each into a disposable cup and gave them to my kids with a disposable spoon to mix.
  2. I suggest adding the shaving cream first and the glue on top. Otherwise, the glue sinks to the bottom and is harder for kids to mix in well!
  3. Once mixed, add glitter if you want and mix well.

How to make melted snowman paintings:

  1. Prep by pre-cutting an orange carrot nose and black paper hat unless your child is old enough to do it themselves.
  2. Give each kid a full sheet of paper – we used blue for a winter vibe.
  3. Give kids a cup of the snow puffy paint and a spoon.
  4. Let them spread paint all over the paper. They can make a snowman shape or more of a blob.
  5. Once they are happy with it, they can add: eye balls, carrot nose, paper hat, stick arms, or coal balls.
  6. Optional: they can add more glitter in the end if you just love cleaning glitter off your floor!
