Planning a trip to Legoland and wondering if it’s worth staying at the official Legoland hotel? Here’s everything you need to know to plan your stay!
We recently made the drive down to Legoland Florida for a long weekend. Our son’s favorite activity is building Legos, so we thought this would be a great option!
When planning the trip, we debated whether we should stay at the Legoland Hotel or get a different hotel somewhere nearby and we made the choice to stay at the Legoland Hotel, specifically in the Pirate Island Hotel side.
Legoland Florida Resort is technically two different hotels, Pirate Island and Legoland Hotel, but they are connected by a lobby and share the same restaurants and amenities.
Pirate Island side is completely pirate themed, while Legoland Hotel side has some different room options, like pirate, Friends, Ninjago and Lego Movie.
We chose to stay in the Pirate Island Hotel side and we absolutely love our choice to stay at the resort hotel. It made so much sense for our family and let’s show you why.

Legoland Hotel review
Overall, the Legoland Florida Hotel experience is like you would expect- over the top Lego everywhere. However, everything is clean and nice and actually really good quality.
One of the main reasons to stay in the hotel is that it is spitting distance to the Legoland main entrance and even has a private security line you can go through to get there.
There’s also free parking and you can buy your packages to include tickets to the park for each day of your stay.
With those costs built in, the nightly cost of the hotel itself was about on par with a standard hotel.
We loved being immersed in the Legoland experience the entire time we were there and it was a really good hotel with a lot of special touches.
Legoland Pirate Hotel Rooms
Honestly, the Legoland Pirate Island Hotel rooms make this whole place totally worth the stay. The design team did a fantastic job with these rooms!
So they are a fairly standard hotel room setup, with a entryway, hallway with bathroom and closet on either side, and a king bed at the end.
However, the big difference is that the first thing to the side of the entryway is the kids bunk area.
The Legoland hotel kids area has a bunk bed with a pullout trundle, lighting on each bunk, separate TV and a Lego building area! There’s a bin of loose Lego and several baseplates for them to get creative.
The carpet, walls, bedding, and everything in between is Lego pirate themed. It made me so happy as an adult who did Lego as a kid to see the treasure map pieces turned into pillows. So cool!
Now, there wasn’t a ton of room for your stuff. No dresser or table or anything like that. Just a small desk area with a mini fridge and a side table. That was all. So be prepared not to have too much stuff.
The best part of the hotel room experience is that the first day when you walk in, there is a treasure hunt for your kids. They have to go around the room and count certain items to unlock the code to the treasure box, where they’ll find a Lego set and juice box for each kid!
After the first day, they leave the set and juice on the bed for the kids when room service comes in, but if you want to go the extra mile (and my kids were expecting this), make your own treasure hunt each night for them. But the code will have to stay the same…
Legoland Hotel dining
Legoland Hotel offers three different restaurants and a separate bar. Each of the restaurants is open for breakfast and dinner and each is slightly different.
Shipwreck Restaurant and Bricks Family Restaurant both offer complimentary family-style breakfast for anyone staying at the hotel.
They ask if you have allergies, but otherwise bring you a big platter of your standard eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries and biscuits and gravy, and then also the daily rotation of pancakes or french toast.
You can order a few extras like yogurt or little boxes of cereal at no additional cost. We actually got cereal boxes to go for my daughter to snack on at the park!
These same restaurants offer a dinner buffet as well. We did this the first night when we got into town and didn’t know what our other choices were. The buffet at Shipwreck is a meat-focused platter, whereas Bricks has a bigger assortment of different food types, such as pasta, tacos, stir-fry and more.
There’s also the Skyline Lounge, which we were told is the more “upscale” dining option, but that turns out to mean it just isn’t a buffet and you order items off a menu. Beware – there were not many tables and there was often a wait. Reservations were recommended especially at peak dinner time.
This is a good option if you want to order some food to go and take it up to your room or out to the pool.
Another dining option at Legoland Florida Hotel is actually at the bar. This wasn’t advertised anywhere, but they have made to order pizzas and this was the best option we experienced while we were there!
For only about $20, it was a big pizza and you could get cheese or pepperoni and it was a really good deal to take outside and enjoy.
It’s a little more expensive overall to eat at the Legoland hotel for dinner, but honestly, your only other choice is to drive 15 minutes away and get some fast food.
Maybe that’s your thing, but we didn’t want to pile the family into the car after a sweaty day at Legoland to go get McDonald’s.
Legoland Hotel pools
The Legoland Florida Resort hotel complex has two pools, one on each side, but you can use either one. One is just a standard pool, while the other has the same pool, but with a water slide.
The pool is slightly heated, but I don’t know that I would be comfortable getting in in the winter. Kids on the other hand probably wouldn’t care.
The water slide is quick and cool, but you have to be I think 44″ to ride it. There’s also floating oversized Lego blocks in the pool, which makes for some fun creativity for the kids!
Each pool also does have lifeguards and included life vest floaties for kids, so no need to bring your own from home.
I was glad that there was a pool, obviously, but feel that LegoLand was kind of cheap on the set up. They could have done a lot more – the pirate pool especially had so much room for theming, a ship to play on, something, but it’s just a plain small pool.
Legoland Hotel Creative Workshops
One other cool thing that the Legoland hotel offers is free Creative Workshops taught by an official “Master Builder.” These are guided builds where you are given the pieces for a mystery build and then are walked through each step until you reach the end of the build.
The class takes about 30 minutes and our preschoolers loved it. However, they fill up really quick.
We didn’t know these had to be signed up for in advance until a couple days before our stay and we were only able to sign up for one slot.
So I’d recommend when you book the hotel, go ahead and sign up for the workshop for each night you’re there!
Other activities at Legoland Hotel
A couple other quick activities to mention at the Legoland hotel to enjoy while you’re there. The first is that inside the lobby, there are a few play areas for kids to run around.
There’s a giant brick pit, a castle and a pirate dungeon. Our kids did these a bit, but they were very crowded so they didn’t love them.
Inside the lobby, you’ll also see some meet and greets with giant Lego minifig people. It’s pretty cool to see these guys big like that with all the detail, but our 3 year old was pretty scared of them.
Finally, they have a putt-putt course! I would have thought this would be included, but it was $8 per person and only 9 holes.
However, there was no one down there, so we played several laps. The holes were actually pretty interesting and it was a good course down by their boardwalk on the river.
Is the Legoland Hotel worth it?
Overall, I would say staying at the Legoland Florida Hotel is 100 percent worth it! The experience was amazing and we had such a good time.
Not to mention the access to the actual Legoland park and how we didn’t have to drive there every day!
When you factor in the free breakfast, free parking, and free activities, staying at the Legoland hotel is not much different cost-wise than a regular hotel, and it’s so much more fun!
