Looking for fun and funny elf on the shelf ideas? Here's how to set up an easy Magnetic Tile Rocket Elf!
Setting up the Elf on the Shelf can be a LOT of work. Let's keep it easy by using things you already have on hand that won't take half an hour to put together!
My kids are obsessed with magnetic tiles, so this one was an instant win. If your kids love space, rockets, or building, this is such a fun (and shockingly easy!) setup.

Anyways, this was quick to set up and such a hit. Here’s how to make your elf blast off!

Elf on the Shelf – Magnetic Tile Rocket
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 5 minutes
What you need:
- Elf on the Shelf
- Magnetic tiles (any brand)
- Optional: window-style magnetic tiles for the “windows” of the rocket
- Optional: small figure or action toy for an astronaut co-pilot

What you do:
1. Build the rocket base
Start by placing one square tile on the floor as the base.
Then, stand four square tiles upright around it to form a cube with the top side missing.
This creates a little chamber where your elf will eventually stand.
2. Build the rocket “body”
Repeat this cube structure four tiles tall—think of it as stacking open-top cubes until your rocket feels tall and rocket-y.
If you have window tiles, place them where your elf’s face or arms will peek out. It’s super cute seeing your elf “looking out” the rocket window!

3. Add the rocket fins (bottom)
Grab four right triangle tiles and add one to each bottom corner of the rocket.
These become the little wings/fins that stick out and make it instantly recognizable as a rocket.

4. Make the rocket tip (top)
Use four long triangle tiles for the pointy top.
These are the tall, narrow triangle pieces where the short side is the same length as a square tile.
Attach all four around the top opening and gently fold them inward so they meet at a point.
Boom — perfect rocket cone!
5. Add your elf
Place your elf inside the rocket, peeking out a window or hanging out like the little astronaut he is.
If you want extra fun, add a sidekick toy or leave a note that says “3...2...1...BLASTING OFF!”

This setup took just a few minutes and my kids lost their minds when they saw their elf ready for space travel. Such a fun way to use toys you already have — and get a big reaction!
Enjoy and blast off!
