Looking for a spooky-cute Halloween craft? This toilet paper roll spider painting is an easy and creative activity your kids will love. With just a few supplies, you can turn recycled toilet paper rolls into creepy crawly spider stamps!
My kids love crafting all year long. Recently, my daughter asked if they could do our toilet paper roll fireworks paintings again.
While I am down for an out-of-season craft, I gave it a little thought and came up with an idea to slightly adjust the cutting of the tubes to turn them from fireworks into Halloween spiders!
Halloween crafts donβt have to be complicated to be fun. This project takes minutes to set up, uses supplies you probably already have at home, and gives kids the chance to get a little messy while making their own spider art.
Perfect for a playdate, a classroom craft, or just a festive afternoon at home!
- Uses recycled toilet paper rolls (free craft supply!)
- Simple setup, but big wow factor when the spider prints appear
- Fun for all ages β little kids can stamp, bigger kids can add their own details
- A festive way to decorate for Halloween with homemade art

Toilet Paper Roll Spider Painting
Here's how easy it is to do this kids Halloween craft!
What you need
- Empty toilet paper rolls
- Black craft paint
- Paper plate or paint palette
- Cardstock or construction paper
- Googly eyes (peel-and-stick or regular)
- Elmerβs glue (if not using peel-and-stick eyes)
- Scissors
- Paintbrushes
- Optional: Silicone painting mat to protect your table, or use newspaper etc
How to make a toilet paper roll spider stamp
Prep the toilet paper roll
Cut a small triangle out of each side of the roll (about 1 inch deep). This leaves 4 sections. Then, cut each section into four skinny strips (cut in half, then half again). Youβll end up with 8 βlegs.β

Fold the legs
Bend the strips upward and outward to form your spider stamp.

Set up your painting station
Place paper on the table (cardstock or construction paper works best). Lay down your silicone mat or newspaper to catch any paint spills.

Add the paint
Pour black craft paint into a paper plate or palette. Kids can dip the stamp directly into the paint or use a paintbrush to coat the legs.

Stamp the spider
Press the stamp down onto the paper. To make sure all 8 legs transfer, gently press each one with your fingers before lifting. It takes just a second β my 7-year-old figured it out after one practice run.

Add the eyes
Once the paint is dry, glue on googly eyes. Use peel-and-stick eyes for less mess, or Elmerβs glue if thatβs what you have on hand.

Let your spiders dry completely and then hang them up for a spooky display. This is one of those easy crafts that kids will want to make over and over again β itβs silly, fun, and festive for Halloween.
