StickerBox Review: My kid's newest obsession!

I am always looking for toys that encourage creative independent play in my kids. And of course, an activity that is not another screen.

I was so excited when I discovered the StickerBox right before Christmas last year. It was one of the gifts that we gave our kids jointly for Christmas, but I was kind of surprised that it ended up being by far the number one hit most played with toy on Christmas morning.

I knew they would like it, I was just underestimating how much they would like it.

I also think it was a great hit because it was something they could immediately play with. Unlike a Lego, this was something they could immediately get into and use over and over again.

I do not know if I have ever heard my daughter laugh as hard as she laughed on Christmas morning playing with this toy. It is so silly and fun in just a huge hit.

What Is StickerBox?

StickerBox is an AI-powered sticker-making toy for kids. Users are able to verbally speak the idea for a sticker, and StickerBox prints it!

The stickers print in black in on white sticker paper, and are designed to be almost like mino-coloring pages for kids to color. Our set included colored pencils.

It is such a fun way for kids to be creative, and a toy they can and will play with independently.

Why StickerBox Is So Popular Right Now

The sticker box has gone completely viral and was a super popular Christmas gift this year, and it's obvious why it was so popular.

First of all the personalized stickers are so cute and fun. And, you can't beat instant results with no set-up required when it comes to young kids.

But what made it so attention getting is of course the AI feature. My husband and I joked that this was our kids first generative-AI experience and while we were being sort of tongue in cheek about it, we weren't wrong.

I love that this is a really safe way for them to experience this new technology.

I also love that the sticker box is screen-adjacent, but not really screen time. It almost feels educational without really being an educational toy.

The kids get so creative, they control the ideas, they can get really wild and inventive with it.

Plus that immediate reward of the sticker and the image that they designed coming to life is just so fun for them.

How StickerBox Works

StickerBox is easy enough that a preschooler can work it independently, once it is set up.

First, you have to download the app and connect your box. This is simple and it walks you through a short and straight forward setup process. (If you are gifting this to your own kids, you might want to pre-set it up before wrapping it!)

Then, you have to load in the roll of sticker paper. Once again, my 5 year old can and does do this herself. It's simple. Just make sure the roll is facing the correct direction or it won't print.

Now you get to make a sticker! Hold down the button on top of the box and state your request. You can be creative, but it needs to be no more than 10-12 words before it gets a little overwhelmed.

Then, the Stickerbox will display, in words on the screen, what you said. Sometimes it mis-hears, which can be VERY funny to the kids.

Next, it will show the design on the screen. This is a black and white, coloring book style image.

Finally, it prints the sticker! You have to tear it off, kind of like a receipt. I will say that the tearing is the hardest part for my kids. I had to show them to tear it at an angle, and they still don't get it 100% of the time.

Now, you can repeat and print sticker after sticker! My kids LOVED this and made so many stickers on Christmas morning. Like, 2 rolls worth!

What I Love About StickerBox

Things Parents Should Know Before Buying

While the StickerBox is great, it's not perfect. There are some things it does not do.

First of all, it does not get your requests right 100% of the time. We found it's not good at copyright characters (mickey mouse, superman, elsa, etc). It's better to be more generic.

And, this is a good problem to have, but my kids loved it so much they RIPPED through sticker rolls. They did 6 rolls in 3 days of Christmas break. I had to order more, and you have to order directly through them and shipping took over a week. That might just be because it was Christmas week, though!

Also, if you put it in a drawer, kids are apt to forget about it and not play with it. If you can, leave it on a shelf in their play area wit easy access!

Finally, like I mentioned, the ripping of the stickers is annoying. I hop they do a V2 that cuts the stickers for you!

Is StickerBox Safe for Kids?

I totally understand that giving your kids access to AI could be scary.

I find the StickerBox to be much safer than a tablet! We have not had any experiences of inappropriate content coming through, being requested or accidentally mis-understood.

StickerBox vs Other Creative Toys

StickerBox is kind of a mix between a craft kit and technology. But, unlike tablet apps, you get the physical element of actual stickers being printed. That makes it such a win in my book.

The closest comparison toy-wise to me would be a StoryPod, TonieBox, or similar audio box for kids. You have the physical element mixed with technology in a very kid-safe way.

And, they both are great for independent play!

Of course, audio players and the StickerBox serve totally different purposes, but if your kid loves one, I bet they would love both!

Who StickerBox Is Best For?

StickerBox was a hit for everyone from my crafty 5 year old, to my book-ish 7 year old, to my 34 year old brother in law 🙂 I really love it for:

• Kids who love stickers
• Kids who don’t love crafts but want to get creative
• Parents who want low-prep activities
• Gift-givers (birthdays, holidays, grandparents)

My Honest Verdict

We LOVE our StickerBox. I think it is a great gift idea. If you have small kids, I suggest pre-setting up the app and loading the paper so they can unwrap, plugin, and dive right in.

This toy is fun, creative, exciting, and great for independent play. There will be so much laughter, collaboration - not to mention tons of stickers! - in your house when you get this toy!
