Looking for an easy DIY balloon spider Halloween decoration? This giant spider is made with black balloons, crepe paper streamers, and construction paper for a fun, inexpensive Halloween party decoration kids will love!
I love a Halloween decoration that makes a big impact without requiring a ton of time, money, or crafting skills.
This DIY balloon spider is exactly that!
We made this oversized spider using two black balloons, some black crepe paper streamers, and a little construction paper. That's pretty much it!
The best part is that you can attach it right to the corner of a room, so it looks like a giant spider crawling down the walls.
It's a little spooky, a little silly, and SO fun for a kids' Halloween party!

- Kid-friendly: The big eyes and silly smile make it more cute than creepy.
- Perfect for parties: Use it to decorate a classroom, playroom, or Halloween party space.
Supplies needed
To make your own balloon spider, you will need:
- 2 black latex balloons
- 1 roll of black crepe paper streamers
- Clear tape
- 1 sheet of white construction paper
- 1 sheet of black construction paper
- 1 sheet of red construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue stick or tape
- Optional: Glue dots
That's it! You probably already have several of these supplies at home.
How to make a DIY balloon spider
Step 1: Blow up the balloons
Start by blowing up both black balloons.
These will form the spider's body, so you want them to be nice and round.

Step 2: Attach the spider to the wall
Pick a corner of your room where the wall meets the ceiling.
Make little loops of clear tape with the sticky side facing out, or use glue dots if you have them.

Use these to attach your first balloon to the upper corner of the room.
Press and hold the balloon in place for about 10 seconds to help it stick securely.
Next, attach the second balloon to the first balloon and the wall using more tape loops or glue dots.
Now you have your spider's body!

Step 3: Make the spider legs
This is the part that really brings the whole thing to life!
Tear off a piece of black crepe paper streamer approximately 3 feet long.

Tape one end of the streamer to the balloon spider's body.
Then, pull the streamer out toward the wall and tape the middle section in place.

Finally, pull the remaining streamer tight and tape the end to the wall.
You want to create a bent, V-shaped spider leg, almost like the spider has a little knee!
Repeat this process until your spider has eight legs.

Spread the legs out along both walls to make the spider look extra big and dramatic.
Tip: You can adjust the length of your streamers depending on the size of your space. Longer legs make an even bigger statement!
Step 4: Make the spider's eyes
Cut two large circles out of white construction paper.
Then cut two smaller circles out of black construction paper.

Use a glue stick or tape to attach the black circles to the white circles, creating two big cartoon-style eyes.

Attach the finished eyes to the front of your balloon spider using tape loops or glue dots.
Step 5: Add a silly smile
This step is optional, but I think it makes the spider so much cuter!
Cut a big smile shape out of red construction paper.
Use tape or glue dots to attach it to the front of the spider.

Now your giant Halloween spider has a fun, friendly face!
Tips for making your balloon spider
A few things to keep in mind:
- Use lightweight tape or glue dots. You want the balloons to stay attached without popping.
- Choose your corner carefully. A corner near the ceiling gives you plenty of room to spread out all eight legs.
- Make the legs different lengths if needed. You can easily adjust the streamers to fit around furniture or other decorations.
- Be careful with painted walls. Test your tape in an inconspicuous spot first, especially if you're worried about peeling paint.
- Make the face your own. You could skip the smile for a spooky spider or make different expressions for a whole family of balloon spiders!

Where to use your DIY Halloween balloon spider
I think this would be SO cute for a Halloween party!
It's a great way to decorate a big empty corner without having to buy an expensive decoration.
You could use it for a kids' Halloween birthday party, classroom Halloween celebration, or just as a fun surprise for your kids when they come home from school.
And because the spider is made from balloons and streamers, it's easy to take down when Halloween is over.
