DIY Ballet Recital Bouquet with a Doll

My daughter just had her very first ballet recital at five years old, and I wanted to make her something extra special to celebrate.

Her recital theme was Alice in Wonderland, so I decided to turn a simple bouquet of roses into a giant recital bouquet with an Alice doll attached — and it turned out SO cute.

This ended up being one of those projects that looks really impressive but was honestly pretty simple to put together.

I used a large bouquet of roses from Costco, some tissue paper, ribbon, and an Alice in Wonderland doll to create a bouquet that was even bigger than she was.

The best part is you can completely customize this idea for any recital theme or dancer.

You could use ballerina dolls, Disney princess dolls, Barbie dolls, or really any character your child loves. It’s such a fun way to make recital day feel even more magical!

DIY Ballet Recital Bouquet with a Doll

Here’s exactly how I made this oversized ballet recital bouquet for my daughter!

Materials Needed

• Large bouquet of roses (I used 24 roses from Costco)
• Doll or Barbie (I used an Alice in Wonderland doll)
• Solid color tissue paper
• Clear Scotch tape
• Rubber bands
• Wide ribbon (about 1.5 inches wide)
• Scissors or floral cutters

Step 1: Reshape the Bouquet

I started with a large bouquet of roses from Costco. They have gorgeous roses for a really good price, and the flowers lasted surprisingly long afterward too.

First, I pulled off the rubber bands holding the bouquet together and spread the roses out on the table. Instead of keeping them all the same height like a traditional bouquet, I rearranged them so the flowers created more of a diagonal slope upward.

This made the bouquet look much larger and fuller!

Once I liked the shape, I wrapped rubber bands back around the stems to hold everything together securely.

Step 2: Wrap the Bouquet in Tissue Paper

Next, I laid out two large squares of tissue paper diagonally on the table so the corners pointed up and down instead of flat. Note: you can also use wrapping paper! Put design side down as you wrap so it ends up on the outside of the bouquet.

Placing them side by side created almost an “M” shape underneath the bouquet.

I placed the bouquet on top and folded one side of tissue paper tightly across the flowers, then folded the opposite side over top and secured it with clear tape.

After that, I rolled the bottom upward around the stems and taped it into place before repeating the same folding process with the second layer of tissue paper.

This is optional, but I think it does make the bouquet look fancier!

Step 3: Add the Doll

To finish the bouquet, I wrapped a wide ribbon around the middle section where the stems were covered by tissue paper.

Before tying the bow, I tucked the doll into the bouquet and wrapped the ribbon around both the flowers and the doll’s waist to hold everything securely in place.

I pulled the doll’s arms upward while tying the ribbon, then lowered them back down once the bow was finished so she looked naturally attached to the bouquet and her arms were free.

I also used clear tape to attach her shoes to her legs. You could also add a drop of hot glue inside the shoe. Otherwise they could fall off while being carried around!

It turned out SO cute and instantly made the bouquet feel extra personalized and magical for my daughter’s recital theme.

One of my favorite things about this idea is how easy it is to customize.

• Princess dolls
• Nutcracker-themed dolls
• Character dolls matching the recital theme
• Favorite movie or TV characters

You could also change the tissue paper and ribbon colors to match recital costumes or studio colors.

This DIY ballet recital bouquet ended up being such a special surprise for my daughter after her very first recital. She was absolutely obsessed with how giant it was, and it made recital photos feel even more memorable.

I loved that it elevated a basic flower bouquet into something that felt much more personal and exciting without being difficult or overly expensive to make.
