Looking for a cute Thanksgiving treat for kids that doesn't involve baking, decorating cookies, or making a huge mess in the kitchen?
These turkey mini donuts are SO easy to make, and they're absolutely adorable!
All you need are some store-bought mini donuts, a handful of cereal, candy eyeballs, and toothpicks. That's it!
I made mine using churro-flavored mini donuts and colorful Froot Loops, and I love how the bright cereal makes the little turkey feathers pop.

Easy Turkey Mini Donuts for Thanksgiving
These would be so cute for a Thanksgiving breakfast, a classroom Thanksgiving party, or a fun snack for the kids while you're getting ready for the big meal.
And the best part? You can customize them with whatever cereal and donut flavors your kids actually like!

What You Need to Make Turkey Mini Donuts
You only need a few simple ingredients and supplies to make these adorable little turkeys.
- Store-bought mini donuts: I used churro-flavored mini donuts that came in a bag. I recommend choosing something tan or brown for that classic turkey look, but honestly, use whatever your kids will eat!
- Froot Loops cereal: The colorful cereal makes the cutest turkey feathers. You can also use Cheerios or another ring-shaped cereal.
- Candy eyeballs: Two per turkey donut.
- Toothpicks: Five per donut.
- Optional icing or peanut butter: To help secure the candy eyeballs if needed.
That's it! No baking, no complicated ingredients, and barely any cleanup.
How to Make Turkey Mini Donuts
These are so simple to assemble, and kids can help with some of the decorating, too!
Step 1: Start with a Mini Donut
Place a store-bought mini donut on your work surface.
I used churro-flavored mini donuts because they had a nice golden-brown color that worked perfectly for the turkey's body.
But you could absolutely use plain, cinnamon sugar, chocolate, or whatever mini donuts your family prefers.

Step 2: Add the Toothpicks for the Feathers
Take five toothpicks and insert them into the back of the mini donut.
Start with one toothpick centered at the top, then add two on either side, spreading them out into a fan shape.
You want them to look like a turkey's tail feathers!
Make sure to push the toothpicks into the donut far enough that they're secure and won't tip over once you add the cereal.

Step 3: Add the Cereal Feathers
Now for the fun part!
Thread Froot Loops onto each toothpick to create colorful turkey feathers.
I found that each toothpick could hold about 4โ5 pieces of cereal.
I made some turkeys with rainbow-colored feathers, mixing different colors on each toothpick. For others, I used one cereal color per toothpick.
Both versions turned out so cute!
You could also use Cheerios if your kids prefer those. The important thing is choosing a cereal with a hole in the center so you can thread it onto the toothpicks.

Step 4: Make the Turkey's Beak
Take one additional Froot Loop and turn it sideways.
Gently press it into the front of the mini donut to create a little beak.
I recommend using a yellow or orange Froot Loop because it looks the most like a turkey beak.
But you do you! A purple-beaked turkey is perfectly fine, too.

Step 5: Add the Candy Eyeballs
Finish your turkey by adding two candy eyeballs above the beak.
I literally just placed mine on top of the donut. No icing, no glue, nothing.
And it worked perfectly fine for serving them right away!
However, if you're making these for a classroom party or transporting them somewhere, you'll probably want to secure the eyeballs.
Just add a tiny dot of icing or peanut butter to the back of each candy eye before placing it on the donut.
This will help keep everything in place.
If you're serving a group, be mindful of peanut allergies and use icing instead when appropriate.

Step 6: Serve Immediately!
And that's it! Your adorable little turkey donuts are ready to enjoy.
I recommend making these right before you plan to serve them.
Mini donuts and cereal can get stale sitting out, especially once everything is assembled and exposed to the air.
These are definitely not a make-ahead-the-night-before kind of treat!
Tips for Making the Cutest Turkey Donuts
Here are a few things I learned while making these:
- Use donuts your kids actually like. Brown or tan donuts look the most turkey-like, but flavor matters more than having the perfect color.
- Have fun with the cereal colors. I loved both the rainbow feathers and the solid-color feathers. Let your kids choose their favorites!
- Don't overload the toothpicks. About 4โ5 cereal loops per toothpick worked well for me.
- Secure the eyes if transporting. A tiny dab of icing makes a big difference if you're moving these around.
- Make them fresh. Assemble shortly before serving so the donuts and cereal taste their best.
Important safety note: These treats contain sharp toothpicks. They should be assembled by an adult, and all toothpicks should be removed before serving to young children. Be especially cautious with younger kids, since hard cereal and candy decorations can also present choking hazards.

When to Serve Turkey Mini Donuts
I think these are such a fun option because they work for so many different Thanksgiving celebrations.
Thanksgiving morning breakfast: Set out a few turkey donuts as a fun surprise before the holiday festivities begin.
Classroom Thanksgiving parties: These would be adorable for a school celebration. Just be sure to follow classroom food and allergy rules, and plan to assemble them shortly before serving.
Kids' Thanksgiving table: Add one to each child's plate for a fun little holiday treat.
Thanksgiving snack time: These are an easy activity and snack to enjoy together while the adults are busy getting everything ready.
You could even set up a little turkey donut decorating station with the cereal sorted by color and let older kids choose their own feather patterns, with an adult handling the toothpicks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you make turkey donuts ahead of time?
I really wouldn't recommend it!
The mini donuts and cereal taste best when they're fresh, and the cereal can start to get stale if it's left sitting out.
For the best results, gather your supplies ahead of time and assemble the turkeys right before serving.
What kind of donuts work best?
I used store-bought churro-flavored mini donuts, and they worked great.
Any small, round donut should work, although I think tan or brown donuts give you the cutest turkey look.
Choose something sturdy enough to hold the toothpicks without falling apart.
Can I use Cheerios instead of Froot Loops?
Absolutely!
Cheerios are a great alternative, especially if your kids prefer them.
You just need a cereal with a hole in the middle so you can slide it onto the toothpicks.
How do you keep the candy eyes from falling off?
If you're serving the donuts immediately, you may be able to simply rest the candy eyes on top like I did.
If you need them to stay in place, use a tiny dot of icing or peanut butter on the back of each eye.
Are turkey mini donuts a good Thanksgiving classroom treat?
They're definitely cute for a classroom Thanksgiving celebration!
However, because the decorations use toothpicks, an adult should remove all the toothpicks before children eat them. Check with your child's teacher about food and allergy policies, too.
