First 10 Days of School Activities for Kids

The first few days of school can be a big adjustment.

One simple tradition we've started is making the first 10 days of (after) school something to look forward to.

Each afternoon, my kids get to reveal one small surprise for after school. Nothing elaborate. Just simple family moments that remind them that even though school is back, there are still fun things waiting at home.

There are two easy ways to do it.

Option 1: The Mason Jar

Write each activity on a slip of paper and place them in a mason jar or small basket.

Each day after school, let your child pull one slip to reveal that day's surprise.

It's simple, takes just a few minutes to put together, and the mystery makes it extra fun.

Option 2: Numbered Envelopes

If your schedule is a little busier (or you already know which nights work best for certain activities), put each activity into a numbered envelope - advent calendar style.

For example:

• Day 1: Ice cream after dinner
• Day 2: Family game night
• Day 3: Playground after school

This lets you plan ahead while still giving your kids something exciting to open each day.
